The Western feminist ideas met with an awkward state in China during the 20th century. All kinds of distortions and misunderstanding caused especially by the foreign word 'feminism' made many female scholars hard to accept the stand of feminists. Actually, the cause behind the phenomenon lay in the Chinese culture which is totally different from the West. Meeting and clashing with the specific Chinese culture, feminism turned from the original radical feminist-self acts to a women emancipation movement by social means and also participated by the male sex. The differences between 'feminism' and 'female sex principle', between 'women emancipation' and 'emancipating the women' should not be regarded as the change of wording, but have profound causes expressing the national and cultural psychology.
