摘要
晚清海外游记是华人西行的旅程实录,可视为中西知识互动与思想交流的第一现场。晚清出洋人士在体察西方世界时,普遍经历了由表及里的理解转化过程,最初他们关注的重心在科技实学领域,随着旅程的延伸,记载亦逐渐丰富宽泛起来,涉及制度、文化、习俗、教育以及医疗等,其中对女性的地位和处境也有不少描叙,举凡女性思想观念、社会活动、家庭地位、接受教育等情况被详细记述。这些书写不仅是游记作者开阔眼界、增长知识以及接触西方女性主义思想的真实写照,也是近代士人反思传统性别观念、观照本国女性处境的重要借鉴,并成为之后男女平权运动、女性意识觉醒的思想文化资源。
Late Qing overseas travelogues document Chinese journeys to the West and constitute primary sites of Sino-Western knowledge interaction and intellectual exchange.When observing the Western world,late Qing travelers generally moved from surface observation to deeper understanding.Their early attention focused on science and practical knowledge;as their journeys progressed,their writings expanded to include institutions,culture,customs,education,medicine,and related fields.Within this broader scope,the depictions of women’s status and circumstances received sustained attention.All aspects such as women’s ideological concepts,social activities,family status,and educational attainment have been detailedly recorded.These representations not only reflect the travelers’expanding horizons,growing knowledge,and encounters with Western Feminist Thought,but also offered modern Chinese intellectuals important points of reference for rethinking traditional gender norms and reassessing the situation of women in China.They thus became significant intellectual and cultural resources for later movements advocating gender equality and women’s self-reliance.
