摘要
严修出任贵州学政期间,洞悉边疆教育积弊,以贵阳学古书院为改革枢纽,秉持“以实学治学”理念,系统推动书院由科举预备机构向近代新式学堂转型。他打破传统书院应试教育的桎梏,通过建设官书局、革新课程结构、实施量化考课与优化师资队伍等一系列制度化举措,构建起“资源供给、学习规训、组织执行”的治理格局。改革以“经算并重、时务导向”为核心纲领,并在学古书院更名为“经世学堂”的过程中实现了制度的延续与固化。严修的实践不仅为贵州教育近代化开辟路径,更成为晚清边疆省份教育转型的可复制范式,为解读近代中国教育变革的地方实践提供了重要样本。
During his tenure as Education Commissioner of Guizhou,Yan Xiu identified the entrenched issues in frontier education and initiated systematic reforms centered on the Xuegu Academy in Guiyang.Guided by the principle of"governing learning through practical studies",he transformed the academy from an institution focused on imperial examination preparation into a modern school.By establishing an official book bureau,innovating the curriculum,implementing quantitative assessments,and optimizing the teaching faculty,he broke away from the constraints of traditional exam-oriented education and established a governance framework integrating"resource provision,learning discipline,and organizational execution".With the dual emphasis on"classics and mathematics"and an orientation toward contemporary affairs as its core tenets,the reforms achieved institutional continuity and consolidation when the Xuegu Academy was renamed the"Jingshi Academy".Yan Xiu's initiatives not only paved the way for the modernization of education in Guizhou but also served as a replicable model for educational transformation in frontier provinces during the late Qing Dynasty,offering a significant case study for understanding local practices in modern Chinese educational reform.
