摘要
词汇的使用与二语写作质量密切相关,不同体裁的写作对词汇使用有不同的要求。现有研究多聚焦通用英语写作,针对商务英语这一专门用途英语语体中词汇使用与写作质量之间关系的探讨相对不足。本研究以中国非英语专业大学生的商务英语信函写作文本为研究对象,探讨学习者在写作中使用商务英语词汇的比例(词次和词型)、词汇复杂度与写作质量之间的关系。研究结果显示:(1)学习者对商务英语词汇的掌握已达到一定水平,写作中商务英语词汇比例接近教材范文所示水平,且该比例与写作质量呈显著正相关,能够有效区分高水平与低水平学习者;(2)实词多样性、实词广度、商务英语词汇比例对商务英语信函写作质量的预测效应较强。这些词汇特征能够为商务英语写作评价和教学提供参考和借鉴。
Lexical use is closely related to second language writing quality,with different genres imposing distinct demands on vocabulary use.While existing research has predominantly focused on general English writing,the relationship between vocabulary and writing quality in Business English,a specific variety of English for Specific Purposes(ESP),remains underexplored.This study investigates the relationship between the proportion of the vocabulary used in Business English(measured by token and type),lexical complexity,and writing quality in the Business English letters written by Chinese non-English major university students.The findings reveal that:(l)Learners have attained a certain level of mastery in using Business English vocabulary,with the proportion of Business vocabulary in their writing approaching that of textbook model texts.This proportion is significantly and positively correlated with writing quality and effectively distinguishes high-and low-performing learners.(2)The lexical diversity of content words,the lexical range of content words,and the proportion of Business English vocabulary exhibit strong predictive effects on the quality of Business English letters.These lexical features can serve as valuable indicators for assessing Business English writing performance,providing insights for the evaluation and teaching of Business English writing.
