摘要
日本僧人灵仙出生于平民阶层,才华横溢、精通佛法。灵仙自荐或因偶然机缘被日本国选为学问僧,随遣唐使到中国。在中国,灵仙用独特方法巡礼佛山,学习汉语,广结善缘。因结识罽宾国般若,他有机会参与《大乘本生心地观经》的梵汉翻译工作,成为唯一汉译佛经的日本僧人,并受唐宪宗赐封“三藏法师”。灵仙充分考虑到日本归国僧侣的实际情况,决定在中国修佛而未回日本。由于对五台山和佛教修行有独到而深刻的理解,所以灵仙驻锡五台山,并效仿前辈佛僧,以独特的方式修佛。灵仙对佛教的发展做出了一定的贡献,也为中日两国文化交流做出了贡献。
The Japanese monk Lingxian was born in an ordinary family.He was talented and proficient in Buddhist teachings.He either recommended himself or was selected by Japan as a studying monk and came to China with the Japanese missions to China in the Tang Dynasty.In China,he paid homage to Buddhist mountains in a unique way,learned Chinese,and formed many good relationships.Thanks to his acquaintance with Prajñāfrom the country of Kāmīra,he had the opportunity to participate in the translation of the Sūtra on the Adornment of the Mahāyāna Bhūmi of the Womb of the Fundamental Nature from Sanskrit into Chinese.He became the only Japanese monk who translated Buddhist scriptures into Chinese and was conferred the title of“Tripitaka Master”by Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty.Taking into full account the actual situation of Japanese monks returning to Japan,he decided to practice Buddhism in China and did not return to Japan.Due to his unique and profound understanding of Mount Wutai and Buddhist practice,he took up residence on Mount Wutai and imitated his predecessors,practicing Buddhism in a unique manner.He made great contributions to the development of Buddhism and also to the cultural exchanges between China and Japan.
