摘要
我国传统文献及文学作品在英译中易出现文化空缺问题。文章以《儒林外史》为例,探讨其英译时出现文化空缺的主要现象,从词汇、语言及译者个体层面,分析其英译中文化空缺翻译的难点。最后对《儒林外史》英译的工作提出了归化法、异化法及合理译外行为的补偿翻译策略,以促进中国传统文字翻译的正向表达。
Traditional Chinese literature and literary works often encounter cultural gaps when translated into English.This article takes“The Scholars”as an example to explore the main phenomena of cultural gaps in its English translation,analyzing the difficulties of translating these cultural gaps from the perspectives of vocabulary,language,and the individual translator.Finally,the article proposes compensation translation strategies such as domestication,foreignization,and reasonable extratextual behavior for the English translation of“The Scholars”,aiming to promote a positive expression of traditional Chinese literature in translation.
