The transportation system serves as a crucial foundational support for urban renewal.Urban renewal in mega-cities exhibits significant disparities in land use nature and development intensity before and after, showcasing new transportation characteristics and posing greater demands on the carrying capacity and operational resilience of the transportation system. There is an urgent need to investigate the impact of urban renewal on the transportation system and propose targeted enhancement strategies. This article begins by analyzing the relationship between urban renewal and transportation, summarizing the trends and characteristics of urban renewal in mega-cities,and examining the opportunities and challenges faced by the transportation system in the context of urban renewal.Overall, the article proposes transportation enhancement strategies encompassing transportation mode transformation, regionally coordinated road network development, composite utilization of corridors, timing coordination of construction, and transportation management. These strategies have been implemented in the urban renewal and transportation enhancement project of the Bay Area New City in Songxi District,Baiyun District,Guangzhou, enhancing the transportation carrying capacity of the area, supporting its renewal and development, and demonstrating the effectiveness of the strategies. The transportation enhancement strategies proposed in this research can serve as a reference for similar urban renewal and transportation enhancement efforts in other central urban areas.
