Objective To explore the effect of mesalazine(MSZ)combined with endoscope-assisted traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in improving the inflammatory state of patients with mild to moderate ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods In a randomized controlled study,UC patients(n=108)in our hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 were enrolled, these patients received either MSZ(n=54,control group)or MSZ+self-prepared TCM of Jianpi Huashi type(n=54,observation group).the clinical manifestation, safety, nutrition indicators,quality-of-life were included as comparator. Results The overall effective rate was higher in the observation group than that in the control group(92.58%vs 75.93%,P<0.05,respectively).After treatment, the serum total protein(TP),albumin(ALB),hemoglobin(Hb),and total hematocrit(HCT)in groups were significantly improved, improvement of which in the observation group were significantly better(P<0.05);the inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire(IBDQ)(Intestinal symptoms, constitutional symptoms, emotional function and social behavior)scores in groups were increased(P<0.05),the observation group was more prevalent(P<0.05).Conclusion For patients with mild to moderate UC,MSZ combined with endoscope-assisted TCM can significantly improve nutritional status, improve quality-of-life,with good safety and efficacy.
