21世纪初的美国,9·11事件、海湾战争等给多少家庭带去了灾难。失去亲人的切肤之痛使得很多人深陷痛苦与悲伤之中。在这样的时代背景下,美国剧作家萨拉·鲁尔推出了一系列作品,并使很多剧作在美国的舞台上演。她的剧作集中探讨了悲伤、痛苦、忧郁、不平等等因素给人们带来的深刻影响以及人们面对负面因素时的积极态度。本文聚焦萨拉·鲁尔的三部戏剧作品《欧律狄刻》《窗明几净》《在隔壁房间》,讨论剧作家如何以轻松幽默的艺术手法,处理悲伤、忧郁与不平等等令人不快之主题,并以此揭示其诙谐幽默的独特戏剧风格。
In the early 21st century in America,many events,like the Sept.11 Attacks,Gulf War and some other disasters,took many lives away,leaving lots of families broken,and making plenty of people fall into melancholy and sadness.And against such background,American playright,Sarah Rual,had many of her plays performed on the American stage,exploring the impact of those tragic factors upon the people,and their positive mood towards those negative effects.Focusing on her three plays,Eurydice,The Clean House and In the Next Room,the paper investigates how the playwright deals with the unpleasant topics of sorrow,melancholy and inequality with a light and humorous touch and to reveal Ruhl’s unique jocular dramatic style.
