全世界主要的工业化城市都面临着住房供给不足的问题，而3－5层的木框架房屋因其施工速度和材料花费上的优点成为提供经济住宅的可能。在多层木框架房屋的设计中，防火和结构问题需要依据房屋规范进行考虑。另外，木材收缩和隔声也需要特殊的考虑。在这里提供了3个多层木框架房屋的实例，这些实例的共性表明：木框架房屋因其施工速度和材料花费上的优势已逐渐成为优先选择。
Shortage of affordable housing is aproblem shared by all major industrialized citiesaround the world. Three to five storey wood-frame buildings offer economical housingthrough construction speed and reasonablematerial costs.In the designing of multi-storey wood-framebuildings, fire-safety and structural considerationsare required by building codes. In addition,shrinkage and sound transmission do requirespecial attention. Three projects are presentedto showcase multi-storey wood-frameconstruction. Common to these projects, wood-frame construction was chosen over othersystems for its economy and the speed ofconstruction.
