In his research of the history of technology,Munford has always paid attention to examining the impact of social, cultural, scientific, religious and other factors on the development and changes of technology.This is a comprehensive and holistic historical view of technology, which encourages Mumford to put it in a specific social and ecological context when he discusses technical evolution, and thus forms his uniquestyle of studying the history of technology.
