A 56-day experiment was conducted to examine the effects of different sediment ameliorants on the growth of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus and benthic environment.Six types of sediment ameliorants with the ingredients of potassium hydrogen persulfate, zeolite powder and various concen- trations of urea hydrogen peroxide,i.e.0%(A),0.5%(B),1%(C),2%(D),4%(E)and 8% (F),were prepared for A.japonicus culture. After the feeding trial, the sediment of group E showed the highest Eh value, which was not significantly higher than that of group F (P>0.05).Sediment of group E showed the highest nitrate nitrogen content, which was not significantly higher than that of group F (P>0.05).The lowest contents of ammonium, nitrite nitrogen and total nitrogen were observed in the sediment of group D,which were not significantly lower than those of groups E and F (P>0.05).Sea cucumber in group D showed the highest specific growth rate but was not significantly higher than those in groups E and F (P<0.05).In summary, adding urea hydrogen peroxide to sediment ameliorant can significantly improve the sediment environment as was analyzed on the basis of SGR and through the second-order regression^the optimum addition content of urea hydrogen peroxide was estimated to be 4.8%.
