摘要
文章评述了美国马里兰大学高级语言研究中心(Center for advanced study of language)的理念与实践。"语言研究要为国家服务"是CASL的核心理念,指导着CASL各方面的工作。CASL近年来的实践目标和具体行动比较完整地反映在2011——2017年的战略规划中。从整体来看,CASL实际上是整个美国语言研究的一个缩影,美国语言研究长期以来就有为国家安全服务的传统,语言服务于国家安全战略已成为美国语言研究的一个基本特征。
The paper makes critical comments on the guiding principle and practice of the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language （hereinafter CASL）. Its guiding principle is language research in service to the nation, which directs all the work of CASL. The goal of CASL and the specific actions to achieve the goal in recent years are clearly presented in CASL 2011--2017 strategic plan. On the whole, CASL reflects the general trend of the language research in USA, whose long-term goal as well as the basic feature aims to serve the security of the nation.
