Based on the panel data from 40 cities in the urban agglomerations in Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River, this paper examines the determinants in location decision of Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) in the region by using Spatial Durbin Model(SDM). The analysis finds that: 1) The location distribution of FDI shows clear space dependence, which however declines over time. Meanwhile, the spatial correlation should not be neglected; 2) The overall results of the sample data indicate that the effects of various determinants on urban FDI location are consistent with the theoretical hypothesis previously expected; 3) The various determinants and their effects on FDI in the region in the last twenty years are stage evolutional. Market scale and foreign capital agglomeration have both been significant positive factors to FDI location decision and tend to reinforce themselves; wage efficiency, marketization level and human capital factors have insignificant or even negative effects at the initial stage but evolve into significant positive effects insignificant factor in all the samples; 4) these determinants shows different spatial effects, some of which exert considerable impacts on FDI location decisions. The above findings can provide valuable references to the using of FDI and investment decisions of multinational corporations in the urban agglomerations in Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River.
