Reclusive literature, as a special literary form and trend, plays an important role in both Chinese and Japanese literature history. The origin and development of ancient Japanese literature are influenced by ancient Chinese culture and literature, thus Chinese and Japanese reclusive literatures are deeply connected, Japanese reclusive literature bears a mark of the indigenous culture of Japan. This paper tries to compare the representative writer Yoshida Kenkoin the middle age of Japan (1192 A.D.-1602 A.D.) with the well-known Chinese reclusive writers Ji Kang and Tao Yuanming in the Wei and Jin Dynasties to explore the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese reclusive literature.
