The second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM,510120 In order to observe the relationship between endothelin(ET) and the curative effect of Kidney-tonifying and Blood-activation formulae for cervical spondylotic myelopathy(CSM),CSM's models of 44 New Zealand white rabbits were setablished by driving screws into C 4~5 to compress the spinal cord. After operation the rabbits were allocated into two groups at random:the Chinese drug group(fed with forage mixed wity herbs)and the control group(fed wity normal forage).Detection of ET and observation of ultrastructral psthological studies were performed at the time of before and after model-making,4w and 8w of treating course. Resulte:The ET level in the Chinese drug group showed significant difference after 4w and 8w of treating course compared wity that in the control group. The histopathological studies showed that after 4w and 8w of treating coures, the pathological change in the Chinese drug group had been ameliorated further, but that in the control group had aggravated severely. The ultramicroscopy studies showed the same tendencies as the histopathological ones. The results demonstrated that herbs had action to improve blood circulation of spinal cord and relieve the pathological change of spimal cord;the level of ET can reflect the pathological change of spimal cord and the curative effect of Chinese drugs.
