摘要
natural history一般被翻译成"博物学",文章从三方面论述应译为"自然史"。这一译名之争将远不止是文辞上的修订,更关涉对科学的理解以及对中国传统学术的诠释,提出史学传统与哲学传统相对,是以具体的、地方性的、体验性的的、记述的方式展开的,因此natural history仍然是一种史学。
Natural history is generally translated into ＂bowuxue＂, however, it should be ＂ziranshi＂. This dispute is not only in wording, but also concerns with our understanding of science and Chinese traditional scholarship. The key of history does not lie in investigating the past, but in the approach to faithful recording, noting and marshalling. Opposite to philosophical method, historical method is specific, localized, experiential and narrative. In this sense, natural history is still a kind of history.
