On Gender Differences Manifested in College English Teacher Talk

摘要 本文通过课堂录音、问卷调查和访谈3种方法,从话语量、提问和反馈3个方面对大学英语课堂中男性和女性教师话语进行了分析和对比。结果表明,性别因素对教师的课堂话语量、提问和反馈具有一定的影响。女性教师的话语量明显高于男性教师;男性教师使用参考性提问的频率明显高于女性教师,而女性教师提问之后的平均等待时间长于男性教师;女性教师倾向于使用简单表扬和重复后表扬的积极反馈方式,而男性教师虽然使用积极反馈的频率高于消极反馈,但使用如纠错、批评等消极反馈的频率明显高于女性教师。 Through tape recording,questionnaire and survey,we conducted a survey and made a comparison on male and female teachers' amount of talk,questioning and feedback.The result showed that gender had some influence on the amount of teacher talk,questioning and feedback.Female teachers showed a greater amount of talk than male teachers;referential questions were used more frequently by male teachers than by female teachers;the average waiting time by female teachers after questioning was longer than the time by male teachers;female teachers tended to use positive feedbacks such as simple praising and praising after repetition while male teachers used negative feedbacks such as error correction,criticism more frequently than female teachers.
