摘要
本文认为将阿诺德直接定性为精英主义者显然有些武断,但是"谐和/均衡"论又过分脱离了阿诺德文化观的意识形态维度,难免存在认识和判断上的顾此失彼。如果结合阿诺德所处的总体社会情境,并以英国的"文化"传统何以于彼时获得明确的命名为问题意识,在这样一种视角主义的观照下,会发现阿诺德一方面践行着葛兰西意义上的"有机知识分子"职能,一方面并没有完全回避和摆脱其内在的精英主义倾向。
This paper presents that it is arbitrary to directly define Arnold as an elitist, while the standpoint of ＂harmony/balance＂ is a far fetch from the ideological dimension of Arnold＇ s cultural views. The paper suggests we should place Arnold in the general social context of his life with an awareness of why the cultural tradition of Britain was named by Arnold. We are likely to find that Arnold assumed the social responsibility as an organic intellectual defined by Gramsci and he didn＇t completely depart from elitism in his inner world.
