The appearance of spatial theory in late 20th century has greatly expanded the perspective and space of literary criticism.Based on the spatial narrative theory, this paper analyzes the physical and psychological spaces in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar.It argues that such narrative techniques as juxtaposition, retrospection, and fragmentation function as spatial metaphors of physical movements and psychological blocks, creating remarkable spatial effects and thus illustrating the thematic concerns of the novel.
