Objective To study the correlation between age and temperature of the cornea (TOC) in the elderly. Methods 386 healthy volunteers (age between 17 and 83 years) were divided into 3 groups: group I (age 〈 30 years, n= 124), group II (age between 35 and 59 years, n= 141) and group III (age 〉160 years, n= 121). Using non-contact infrared thermometer to measure the cornea temperature in order to analyze the relationship between age and TOC. Results In group I, age was positive correlated with TOC (r=0.692, P〈0.01), the mean TOC was (32.0±1.3)℃. In group II, age was negetive correlated with TOC ( r =-0.707, P 〈 0.01 ), the mean TOC was (32.2 ± 1.2 ) %. In group III, age was positive correlated with TOC, but was not statistically significant (r=0.060, P=0.515 ), the TOC was (32.9± 1.3 ) ℃. Conclusions The cornea temperature reference range in the elderly is (32.9± 1.3 ) ℃ and the correlation between age and TOC is positive, but not statistically significant.
