Selective reduction of the phenyl ring beared carboxyl group was realized successfully with sodium and amyl alcohol at 140145 . Through cistrans isomerization trans4(4pentylphenyl)cyclohexyl carboxylic acid and trans4 cyclohexyl carboxylic acid were obtained in good yield and their structures were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 13C NMR and MS measurements.
