摘要
赫德为英国人。长期担任中国海关总税务司。对晚清政治、外交、经济等方面均有重要关系。翁同龢先后授读同治帝、光绪帝,在晚清也举足轻重。随着时间的推移,翁对赫德愈来愈重视,赫德对翁也情有独钟,他们之间的关系与晚清政局的演变密不可分,值得认真加以研究。
British Robert Hart served as Inspector General of China＇s Imperial Maritime Custom Service for a long time, playing a great role in the politics, diplomacy and economy of the late Qing Dynasty. Weng Tonghe, teacher of Emperor Tong Zhi and Emperor Guang Xu, was also a prominent figure in that period. As time went by, Weng was paying more and more attention to Hart, who thought high of Weng too. Their relationship was tightly connected with the situation of the late Qing and worth studying.
