Objective To investigate the relationship between β2-adrenergic receptor(β2-AR) gene A46G polymorphism and antihypertensive effect of metoprolol in Chinese Han ethnic population.Methords Fifty-four patients with essential hypertension(EH) received metoprolol 25 mg bid. for four weeks.β2-AR gene A46G polymorphism was genotyped by gene chip technigue. The relationship between the polymorphisms and the change in blood pressure was analyzed after treatment.ResultsSystolic and diastolic pressures after treatment were significantly decreased compared to those before treatment, which was more in patients with AA+AG genotype than that in those with GG genotype(P0.05).Conclusion β2-AR gene A46G polymorphism is assosiated with the antihypertensive effect of metoprolol.Decrease in diastolic pressure after treatment with metoprolol is more in patients carrying A allele.
