Ruoqiang County's Uygurian name developed from the name of the tribe (one group of the Wu Gusi tribe). This derivation started in the Middle of the 1^st century B. C. , on which the translation of kakelike (卡克里克) in the documents in the Qing Dynasty was based. Such a naming of the place indicates the Turkic tribes' settlement in the eastern part of the Talimu Basin, which was caused by the competition between the rulers of the West Han Dynasty and the Turkie rulers for the control of the region of the Tianshan Mountains in the east. The tribe, subjected to the Turkic tribes, lived a nomadic life in the northern foot region of the Tianshan Mountains and later moved to the land of the now Bachu County. It is groundless to designate the Uygurian name of the Ruoqiang County as , which severs its connection with the history. The other current ideas concerning the etymological roots of the name such as qardaliq ( guider), (literally four wells), and (the place where the spinning wheel was found) are all far-fetching. The recover), of its ancient name or the name used in the Qing Dynasty should be based on the due understanding of the modern Uygur.
