普遍有闲社会的悄然逼近使休闲成为人类生命活动的重要组成部分，越来越多的自由时间为人类的生活质量提供了更为广阔的开拓空间。休闲作为社会生产力发展的产物，它不仅是衡量生产力水平和社会文明的尺度，也是人类生活质量的风向标。鉴于目前人们对休闲认识的偏差和休闲的异化现象日益严峻，加强休闲教育指导人们建构健康、文明、科学的休闲生活方式，具有深远的战略意义。
