"由来"的词汇化历程有鲜明的个性特征:"由"和"来"在演变的起点上既不属于同一层次,也没有在线性序列上紧邻出现,而是通过特定的句法操作结合到一起;同时,"由来"成词后进一步虚化,由表达时间概念的名词演化成类似时间副词的单位,但最终到现代汉语中功能和用法又单一化了。"由来"的词汇化历程代表了现代汉语某一类别的"X来"式双音词的词汇化路径,也在一定程度上表明了时间名词和时间副词之间的历时演变关系。
The lexicalization of youlai（由来） has a distinctive feature. At the very beginning of the process, you （ 由 ） and lai （来） were separated from one another and were located in different syntactic construction levels. They were put in direct contact by a special syntactic operation. After becoming fixed as a single lexical item, youlai underwent the process of grammaticalization and changed from a content word （noun） into an adverb-like word of time. Finally, its function is simplified and is only used as a noun, functioning as subject or object in modem Chinese. The lexicalization process of y6ul6i represents the lexicalization path of the X-lai （来） category in Chinese, which indicates, to a certain extent, the diachronic connection between the time noun and the time adverb.
