Objective To study the free radicals change in the brain of newborn rats with hypoxicischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Methods Twenty newborn Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into normal control group and HIE group. The HIE model was built successively and SOD, GSH Px activity and malonyldialdehyde (MDA) contents in cerebral homogenates were measured. Results In the brain homogenates of HIE rats, SOD content and GSH Px activities were significantly lower than those in the normal control group (P<0.001);the MDA contents showed a higher level (P<0.003).Conclusion HIE could induce the change of free radicals and lead to the injury of brain.
