How to deal with the cultural differences in translation has become a very important issue in translation theory. The paper introduces Skopostheory to cultural translation and argues that it is not only appropriate but also successful in translating the cultural differences inaccordance with its corresponding purpose in each specific piece of translation. The author makes an illustration by comparing two differentEnglish translations of a fragment extracted from the Chinese novel"A Dream of Red Mansions".
