摘要
文章对美国记忆——美国历史资源数字图书馆进行了综合性介绍，从项目概述、资源组织、资源服务、技术特征等角度入手分析了该数字图书馆的总体特征，指出这是一个资源翔实、组织良好、遵循数字图书馆建设规范、服务完备的数字图书馆，为全球用户通过网络免费获取美国历史资料提供了便捷的途径。与此同时文章也指出该数字图书馆在检索效率上有待改进，应尽快实现分面检索功能，从而全面而准确地揭示多样化的各类收藏。
This article reviews ＂American Memory＂ , a digital record of American history and creativity, including its collection digitization, resources organization, interface design, technological features and service components. Hosted by the Library of Congress this digital library ＂is to make its resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations.＂ While indicating its well organized rich resources and standardized site construction, author＇s comments and suggestion for the library＇ s improvements are also given.
