简略回顾了北京的大规模城市更新中存在的问题，以一个位于北京旧城中心位置的具体实例说明了小规模渐进式改造的可能性。
Abstract The Article contains a review of problems in Beijing's large scale urban renewal.The author also presents a case study with an alternative,incremental,form of upgrading in an Old City neighborhood.A scheme which considers economy as well as the existing context.
