美国中小学社会课双语教学的策略

Bilingual Instruction Strategies in Teaching Ells Social Studies at America's Primary and Secondary Schools

摘要 社会课在美国中小学是一门重要的课程。为了帮助英语语言学习者克服社会课学习时在背景知识缺失、词汇生疏、句式复杂难以理解等方面的困难,美国教师采取以下教学策略:利用英语语言学习者原有知识和文化;创设内容情境;知识呈现方式多元化;强调内容的基本结构;重视语言运用等,来促进英语语言学习者理解课程内容和提高英语水平。这些具体的教学策略为我国中小学双语教学提供借鉴。 ISocial Studies is an important course at primary and secondary schools in the United States. For English language learners, the chief difficulties in studying lie in the inadequacy background knowledge and the misunderstanding of vocabularies and sentence structures. To overcome these challenges, various effective bilingual teaching strategies, including utilizing Ells' native language and culture as instructional resources,creating content situations for language application,diversifying presentation modes, as well as emphasizing the structure of subject content, etc,are adopted by American social studies teachers,which can be used for references in China's school bilingual instruction.
