摘要
丘奇兰德从科学实在论的立场出发认为,语词的意义是由语言使用者的信念决定的。以此为基础他反驳了分析语句与综合语句的区分,用语义重要性概念刻画语词的意义,用系统重要性概念阐发个体关于语词的理解。他主张语言之间的语言翻译是保留语义重要性的语词映射,而个人语汇之间的理解翻译是保留系统重要性的语词映射。丘奇兰德的语言哲学思想充分表明科学实在论对于语言哲学的影响,体现了科学实在论的方法论功能。
From the point of scientific realism, Paul M. Churchland argues that the meaning of a term is determined by believes of users of languages. Based on it, he refutes the analytic/synthetic distinction, characterizes the meaning of a term by the notion of semantic importance, and characterizes an individual＇ understanding of a given term by the notion of systemic importance. He holds that the translation across languages is a term-term mapping that maximizes the preservation of semantic importance, and the transdoxation across idiolects is a term-term mapping that maximizes the preservation of systemic importance.
