Low molecular weight Rehmannia glutinosa polysaccharides(LRPS), the main active contents of Rehmannia glutinosa, evidently inhibits the growth of Lewis lung cancer of mice. To study the relation between the effect of LRPS on antitumor and oncogene, the effect of LRPS on the expression of protooncogene cfos and cmyc were studied by means of Northern blot and slot blot. The levels of cfos, cmyc mRNA were 0.476, 0.177, and 1.406, 0.160, respectively after LRPS 20 and 40 mg·kg1, and the levels of gene expression of saline group were 0.311 and 0.218. The experiment showed that the expression of cfos in cancer cells was increased and the expression of cmyc in cancer cells was decreased after administration of LRPS. It is suggested that the effect of LRPS on the expression of oncogene cmyc and cfos be one of the mechanisms of antitumor effect of LRPS.
