Objective To investigated the correlation between the fluid transport and sodium concentration across the middle ear mucous in healthy rats. Methods 24 rats were divided into 4 groups and then maintained under general anesthesia. One of the bulla was filled with sodium solutions of 10,40, 80 and 140 mM,respectively, while the other side with 140 mM sodium solution. After 30 minutes, the fluid volume change became stabilized and the variations were continuously measured. The changes expressed in the voume/time curve were plotted. The absorption rate was calculated by fitting linear regression. The absorption ratio was defined as the absportion rate of the control side divided by that of experimental side. Results The regression analysis indecated that the KR values were:KRⅠ0. 5455±0. 0685,KRⅡ0. 6353±0. 0579,KRⅢ0. 7575±0. 0611 ,KRⅣ0. 9774±0. 0585 (P〈0. 001). The KR value was positively correlated with the sodium concentration(r=0. 9424,P〈0. 001). Conclusion This experiment confirmed that the positive correlation between the fluid absorption rate and the sodium concentration, and further demonstrated the absorption function of the middle ear mucous in rats.
