The Ting was the representative utensil of the Shang and Chou Dynasties. It contains in itself both the secularity coming from the real life and the ancients" cultural imaginary. Starting with exploring the Ting's origination, and by analyzing the literatures in Pre-Chin period, This treatise elaborates the dualistic structure of "sacred/secular" existing in the people's hearts during the Shang and Chou Dynasties. It ends by pointing out the roots of this notion that consisted of the archaic technique worship, the ancestor worship mixed with the idea of witchcraft.
