摘要
20世纪70年代,德国出现一派翻译理论——功能派翻译理论,其核心是"目的论"。对目的论的评价有褒有贬,在批评的声音中颇具代表性的是:功能派理论不适用于文学翻译。通过比较分析《红楼梦》中"护官符"的两种译文对此批评提出不同的看法:在文学翻译中运用目的论是可行的。
The 1970s saw the rise and development of the＂German School＂of functional translation theory which centers on teleology,at which criticisms have been leveled in particular.Among the most typical criticisms is the doubt about the appropriateness of the theory to the translation of literary texts.This paper,therefore,aims at validating the applicability of this translation theory in poetry translation by making a comparison between the two translations rendered by David Hawkes and Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang respectively for officials＇ protective charm in A Dream of Red Mansions.
