According to Marmaridou, deixis has an extent rather than absolute value. The same personal pronoun may vary in different contexts. The qualitative and quantitative analyses yield the following results. The first person deixis in Chinese L2 learners' argumentative writing displays some marginal features. And significant differences between the two groups at different proficiency levels have been found in terms of the frequency of use and the cognitive-pragmatic features of first person deixis. Moreover, what is worth noting is a new pragmatic feature, i.e. "we" is used to refer to whoever is privileged over the user himself.
