麦尔维尔的代表作品《白鲸》被称为是"美国想象力最辉煌的表达",作者以浓厚的超越时空的浪漫主义写作和极具神秘色彩的意识流手法,描述了捕鲸工人在海上的艰苦生活和惊险的捕鲸场面,表达了作者对下层劳动人民的深切同情和人道主义关怀。作品中感人的情节和人物的象征意蕴,折射出作者的精神境界,生动地展现了一场人与大自然、善与恶、美与丑之间惊心动魄的较量过程。
Melville＇s novel Moby Dick has been considered the most glorious work of the imagination and its use of the stream of conscious combined with a romantic space-time concept has won it great fame. With detailed descriptions of the whaler＇s life, the book shows the author＇s humanistic concern for the underclass, and the moving images indicates the author＇s commitment in the conflict between man and nature, good and evil, and the beautiful and the ugly.
