作为语气副词，“实在”的特点主要体现在语用上。“实在”句的典型语义格局是：（本来）-q，（因为）实在p，（所以）q。其中，p包含程度义，q具有超常性；“实在”出现在表程度义的p中并凸显或加强p的程度性，q作为P的结果，要具有必然性和可推导性。因此，“实在”的语法意义就表现为“对事物性状高程度的主观确认”。这一语法意义规约着进入句子的词、结构或句式所必须具有的相关特征。
The features of shízài(实在) as modal adverb, are reflected in its usages.The typical pattern of shízài sentence is: '-q,shízài p, q’,in which p implies levels of degree,q hypernormality.Shízài occurs in p and intensifies p in its levels of degree.As the result of p,q should be necessary and deducible.Therefore, the grammatical meaning of shízài can be generalized as subjective confirmation of high-level features of the matters,which sets up limits to words,phrases and structures that can appear in shízài sentences.
