The article is an observation of the exhibition "China contemporary" held in Rotterdam, June 10th until September 3rd 2006 from the perspective of a new generation of young Chinese architects. The author compares the background and intension of this exhibition with that of two other comprehensive exhibitions on China:the 1997 "Inside-Out" exhibition held in New York, and the 2005 "City Open Door" exhibition held in Shenzhen. While discussing the curatoria attitude, layout design and major concerns of the exhibition, the article also reflects on various critical questions raised by the exhibition curator Linda Vlassenrood on Chinese cities and architecture undergoing unprecedented transformation
