OBJECTIVE: To analyze the deeply researched several cell growth regulatory factors that affect topical bone metabolism and knows the decisive factors and influential factors through exploring the function and relationship of all kinds of functional molecules. Also the article tries to outline the topical humoral chemical micro-cireumstance in which the bone cells grow, survive and develop their functions. DATA SOURCES: The literatures of bone metabolism regulatory factors were collected from the Medline database from January 1980 to December 2002 by using the key words of "Bone metabolism and adjusting factors" in English. Moreover, the literatures of bone metabolism regulatory factors were collected from the CBM database between January 1980 and December 2002 by using the key words of "Bone metabolism and adjusting factors" in Chinese. STUDY SELECTION: The literatures were selected primarily, and then literatures of bone metabolism regulatory factors were collected, and found the full texts. The standard papers included (1)bone metabolism and (2) regulatory factors. The excluded "papers were review, repeated study and Meta analytical papers. DATA EXTRACTION: The literatures of bone cell metabolism regulatory factors were 57, and 22 papers were accorded with the standard. DATA SYNTHESIS: Many hormones and factors together regulated the metabolism activity of osteoblast and osteoclast. They had the complicated relation for being in conjunction, promote, restraining, and form a network. Bone tissue combined with multiple growth factors, and played an important role in the onset of osteoperosis. Fibrohlast growth factors were of benefit to the sclerotic growth. Platelet-derived growth factor played an important role in the repair of fracture. Bone was the biggest source and reservoir pool of transforming growth factor-β. Bone morphogenetic protein was necessary in bone mesenchymal cells transforming into osteoblast, differentiation of osteoblast, bone development and bone formation. Interleukin mainly was synthesized with phagocytic cells, polypeptide substance. It was suspected that P substance might play a regulatory effect in bone longitudinal growth. Various bone metabolism influencing factors were in bone tissues, so there was not only one factor in microenvironment of bone cells at any time, namely, the bone metabolism was regulated by multiple factors together. CONCLUSION: Aiming at the complicated network relation that influencing various functional factors of the bone metabolism, it is feasibility and necessary to carry on the digital and informational study of function mode of the molecule structure in the microcosmic field.
