Copper produced in Yunnan was transported to Beijing in a variety of ways in the Qing Dynasty. The most important routes include the old route of Shimen, the water route of Huangca-oping by the Jinsha River, the Kuixiang route, the Wusa route through Sichuan and the Luoxing-du route. Previous studies contain many misapprehensions about the number of copper stores, o-verlap in the routes and when they were opened up. The stations along the water routes to Beijing had rather complex conditions. The system of compensation for risk of shipwreck and time limits for shipment was not consistent with actual practice. The transport of copper to Beijing was a massive transport project in the Qing Dynasty with a complex and well-developed network.
