The present paper deals with 7 species of Syrphus Fabricius, of which one species is described as new to science. A key to the known Chinese species is given.The new species is described as follows.Syrphus hcf He et Chu, sp. nov. (figs. 1 ￣ 5)Male. length: body ll.5mm, wing 10mm. Eyes bare. Frons yellow, upper 1 /2and along the eye-margins with yellow pruinescence, shining below, in the middle with a blackish brown spot. Face yellow, yellow-haired and pale-dusted laterally.Antennae orange-yellow, third segment pale-brown dorsally. Scutellum yellow,black-haired in the middle, yellow-haired laterally and along frontal margin. Wing membrane entirely trichose. Abdominal pattern as fig. 2. Tip of lingLila curved indistinctly ventrad. Anteroventral teeth of aedeagal base (as seen in profile) free from elevated sides of tlat posteroventral face (fig. 4).Female: unknown.Holotype♂ , paratype 1 ♂ , Xizang: Yadong (Xarsingma), Aug. 30, 1984, collected by Hu Shengchang. The type specimens are deposited in the Insect Collection of Shanghai Agricultural College.This new species differs from the other species in the genus Syrphus by thecombination of the following characters: hind femora with a broad blackish annulation beyond the middle, the apical third covered with yellow or mostly with yellow short hairs, frons yellow. It is similar to S pernicis He et Li, but may be distingUished from the latter by the following characters: Frons with a pair of dark spots above antennal bases, antennae mainly orange; genitalia different.
