This paper employs the schema theory to analyze the role that schema plays in L2 acquisition and vocabulary reconstruction, and elaborate on the influence of schema theory upon L2 acquisition. It holds that the first stage of L2 acquisition (the formal stage) is the schema between the mother tongue (MT) and the target language (TL); the second stage is the MT and TL schemas; the third stage (L2 reconstructing stage) is the application of the TL schema. Language learners can never reach the third stage without doing well at the first and second stages. It proceeds to point out that the application of schema theory into L2 acquisition is of great help for language learners to improve their listening, speaking, reading, writing, translating and other language skills.
