The new TGV Mediterranee line has been a driving force behind Euromediterranee, a 300 ha development area situated between the harbour and the railways station. From 300 to 400 000 m^2 of services, shops and housing intend to be created in that area. This has launched as well the development of public transport amenities. Inaugurated in 1848, the St-Charles station has been deeply transformed until 1893. The first phase of its renovation has been achieved in 2001 for the arrival of the TGV Mediterranee. It has mainly consisted in creating a ticket sales desk and a lounge, in redevelopping circulations and platforms, and in renovating partially the 400 cars capacity parking.
