This article argues that the British social anthropology theories on African clan system needs to be studied and revised according to the actual society structures when introducing them to East Asian societies. By studying the research of clan as "social traditions" and "cultural traditions", the concept of "clan" in folk-custom biology and sociology, the concept's expanding in sociology, and the keywords in Chinese and Japanese clan systems, the author argues that anthropologists in East Asia should discover themselves in the first stance, rather than addicting to western academic systems. It is definitely not stuffy but a selective conversational process between east and west. This conversation in the clan system research is an internal mutual action process between universality and specialty.
