摘要
本文作者利用自己收集到的公共标牌和标识汉译英的大量例证,分析和论述了公共标牌和标识英译中的三种常见错误,即:误译、死译、译文不地道和译文不简练。作者不仅分析了产生这些错误的原因,而且还提出了纠正这些错误的方法。希望本文对提高公共标牌和标识汉译英的整体质量会有所帮助。
By using numerous examples he has collected by himself, the author analyses and discusses three common mistakes of Chinese-English translation of public signboards and notices, such as mistranslation, rigid translation, unidiomatic translation and lengthy translation. The author has not only probed into the causes of such mistakes but also come up with solutions to these problems. Hopefully, this will help, in some way, improve the overall quality of translation of public signboards and notices from Chinese into English.
