Naphthyloxy-5,12-naphthacenequinone(1) was synthesized by reacting 6-chloro-5,12-naphthacenequinone with 1-naphthol in dry DMF in the presence of potassium carbonate.Its characterization results of￣1H NMR and IR were presented.Like phenoxynaphthacenequinones,1 showed normal photochromism in a DMSO solution,exhibiting a characteristic double peak at 454 and 483 nm with isosbestic points at 405,362,342 and 278nm during irradiation with 365 nm UV light.
