There have been heated discussions on "body writing" in the realm of hterary criticism in recent years. This paper aims to sort out the main views of the discussions and to point out some noteworthy issues, i.e. the gradual narrowness of the intension and extension of "body writing" has led to the narrowness of the "body" concept in literature; in the process of taking the occidental feminist theory as a flame of reference to study our native writing, we normally neglect their differences in contexts and connotations; while sex description is the focus of the discussions , the essence of the dispute over "body writing" literature and its cultural significance centers around the point whether literature of individuality could gain a legitimate status.
